Alison Harris: Calendar

The Dustbowl Road event, put on by North Bay Hootenanny, was an awesome event. I played a set at the Last Record Store, prophetically named, it seems, as indie record stores sadly drop like flies. This store just makes you want to buy music with their eclectic, hand-picked albums. That isn't to say they aren't well stocked- you can pretty much find whatever you are looking for there.

I was sandwiched between two hoppin' bluegrass bands, who got me warmed up with some foot-stompin' goodness. I played solo, just me and my guitar, and sang my heart out as I always try to do. I played songs from the album, Smoke Rings in the Sky, and a couple of traditionals. I covered "Single Girl, Married Girl", that I learned from a Carter Family record. A clawhammer banjo player/teacher (Steve Wharton) came up to me after the set and let me know that it's one of his favorite songs. I hope to take a banjo lesson from him one of these days soon.

Some old friends, some new friends. Can't wait for the next North Bay Hootenanny.
